The relationships between mothers and daughters have always been good material for series: There was the ever-popular show “Gilmore Girls” (2000–2007), the drama based on the book “Little Fires Everywhere” (2020) or the sitcom “Mom” (since 2013). The new Netflix series “Ginny & Georgia” also revolves around a mother-daughter team, but they are quite different and have big problems.

Ginny is sometimes more sensible than her mother

Once there is Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey). She has long blonde hair, speaks with a charming Southern accent and is cheerful in nature. The 30-year-old comes from a poor background and became pregnant as a teenager. Since then, she has had to struggle through life and resort to unconventional methods to support her family.

Her daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) is 15 years old and in the middle of puberty: she has dark brown curls, is rather shy and sometimes more sensible than her own mother. Her father Zion (Nathan Mitchell) is African-American and was Georgia’s first great love — but the relationship did not last long. Later, Georgia had another son, nine-year-old Austin (Diesel La Torraca).

Mysterious death of Georgias Husband

After the mysterious death of Georgia’s husband, the family of three moves to Wellsbury, a tranquil town in picturesque New England in the northeastern United States. Ginny quickly makes new friends at her new high school, she is suddenly popular and even has a boyfriend. Georgia, too, gets along well in her new surroundings. After just a few days, she is hired by the handsome mayor Paul (Scott Porter) at the town hall, who not only becomes her boss, but later also her lover.
